please DO disturb

I came across this quote this morning, and I don't think I could have said it better myself. One of the things it seems is a constant struggle for me is complacency, or the fear of it. This quote hits the issue dead on.

Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely,
Because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life!!

Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wilder seas
Where storm will show Your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.

We ask You to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push us in the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love.
This we ask in the name of our
Captain, who is Jesus Christ.

- Sir Francis Drake

Interesting that this quote came from a man who instilled such fear in the Spaniards that they called him El Draque ("The Dragon"). Yes, he was a pirateer and he robbed and pillaged ... but he was a humane pirateer because he didn't rape, murder or torture anyone. Well, as long as he was humane about it ...

the progressive girl who lives next door

Hi there.
For those of you who were wondering, I am in fact still alive. I have been a busy girl, doing lots of fun things like working obscene amounts of overtime and taking trips to New Mexico. Ok, only one trip to New Mexico. But it was nice.

I don't really have anything meaningful to say today, but I just found this quiz on Steph's site, so I took it. Interesting, when I read the descriptions of all the different types of girls, I'm not sure these are the ones I would pick for me. But maybe the makers of the quiz know better:
